Murder, Mystery & Mayhem 2004
1st January 2004
Murder, Mystery & Mayhem all resolved at the ARC Discontinued Business Seminar & Commutations event on 17/18 March 2004.

This year, after expectations of drawing a similar number of delegates to 2003, the event actually brought in 13% more! With a greater draw of delegates from Europe and the USA the event this year was more cosmopolitan than ever.
"With asbestos, legal and reinsurance claims activity, developing in Europe and Australia in a similar format to the US, dealing with old year business and planning for run-off portfolios in the future is something more and more companies need to consider", says Leslie-Ann Giovnilli Secretary of ARC.
"Our Seminar looked at these issues as well as those of managing claims payments in and out for closed books of business. It was clear that run-off is still growing and we have yet to identify all of the potential liability areas where this may bring new problems to the reinsurance table.
In association with KPMG LLP ARC has issued an [interim] Survey for Life Run-off numbers and this fairly new issue of life run-off was discussed at our Seminar by PricewaterhouseCoopers in a way that all of our audience could relate to, both as policyholders and re/insurers.
The ARC Congress 2005 may be a very different animal from this years event and we are keen to adapt to the changes in our market and bring the issues to our members at a very reasonable cost once again. We could not do this without the invaluable help we receive from our sponsors, who by their support, allow us to offer such great value for money for an event of this nature."
